Privacy Policy

ChoreBank ("we", "us", or "our") operates the ChoreBank mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the App.

By using ChoreBank, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve the App. The types of information we collect include:

  • Account information: When a parent creates an account, we collect their email address and a password (stored securely via our authentication provider).
  • Family profile data: Parent-provided names and display names for family members, including children. We do not require children's real names — display names or nicknames are sufficient.
  • Chore and transaction data: Chore descriptions, dollar amounts, completion status, approval history, and wallet balances created within the App.
  • Photos: If a child uploads a photo as proof of chore completion, that image is stored securely and is only visible to members of their family.
  • Payment information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full card details. Stripe handles all payment data under their own Privacy Policy.
  • Device and usage data: We may collect anonymous, aggregated data such as device type, operating system version, and App usage patterns to improve performance.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App
  • Create and manage your family account
  • Process chore tracking, approvals, and wallet balances
  • Process subscription payments via Stripe
  • Send essential account-related notifications (e.g. password resets)
  • Improve the App through anonymous usage analytics
  • Respond to support requests

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

3. Children's Privacy

ChoreBank is designed for families. Children use the App under the supervision and control of a parent or legal guardian.

  • Only parents can create accounts and add children to a family.
  • Children cannot create accounts independently.
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without parental consent.
  • Child profiles are created and managed entirely by the parent, who controls what information is entered.
  • A parent may view, modify, or delete their child's profile and associated data at any time through the App's Settings.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us at support@chorebank.app and we will delete it promptly.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database platform with enterprise-grade security including encryption at rest and in transit, row-level security policies, and regular backups.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

  • Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (Privacy Policy)
  • Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions (Privacy Policy)
  • Expo / React Native — App framework and update delivery (Privacy Policy)

These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the App's Settings, we will delete your personal data and associated family data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account

8. Australian Privacy Act

We comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). If you are located in Australia, you have additional rights under the APPs, including the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the App and updating the "Effective date" above. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
